Data Gaps within Atmospheric Rivers over the Northeastern Pacific

چکیده
Abstract Conventional observations of atmospheric rivers (ARs) over the northeastern Pacific Ocean are sparse. Satellite radiances affected by presence clouds and heavy precipitation, which impact their distribution in lower atmosphere precipitating areas. The goal this study is to document a data gap existing ARs Pacific, investigate how targeted field campaign called AR Reconnaissance (AR Recon) can effectively fill gap. When reconnaissance excluded, there regions from near surface middle troposphere (below 450 hPa), where most water vapor its transport concentrated. All-sky microwave provide within object, but quality degraded core leading edge, due existence thick precipitation. Recon samples surrounding areas improve downstream precipitation forecasts western United States. This demonstrates that despite apparently extensive swaths modern satellite radiances, critical estimate large-scale flow, collected during 15 cases 2016, 2018, 2019 supply about 99% humidity, 78% temperature, 45% wind maximum layer ocean 700 hPa ARs. high-vertical-resolution dropsonde significantly sampling low-level jets transporting high-impact events

Atmospheric Feedbacks over the Tropical Pacific in Observations and Atmospheric General Circulation Models: An Extended Assessment
The dynamical and radiative feedbacks from the deep convection over the tropical Pacific are quantified using ENSO signal in that region for both the observation and 16 climate models. Different from a previous analysis, we recognize the nonlinear relationship between deep convection and SST over that region, and perform the evaluation using the data from the warm phase and the cold phase separ...

They are characterized by high water vapor content and strong low level winds, and form a part of the ...

متن کاملthe effect of atmospheric rivers on iran climate
introduction: water vapor spreads in molecular, unstable and erratic phase and transfers by convection and advection process. this transfer happens from the earth and oceans' surfaces to the atmosphere by the hot air. this type of this transfer is considered as the main pattern. in the studies of the atmosphere, one of the prominent factors to be considered is the complexity of water vapor...
